Fort Funston-August 29th 11:00am
Join us for another joint meetup with the Bay Area meetup group right on the beach in San Francisco. It is about an hour and a half drive from Sacramento but well worth it. The first joint meetup was a huge success and so much fun. Make sure to mark this on your calendar so you won't miss out.
We can also caravan and and try to squeeze into fewer vehicles if anyone is interested.
Here is the information for the meetup from the Bay Area Calendar:
Lots of Great Danes at Fort Funston!!! Everyone loves this spot! Fort Funston is a great beach area for the Danes to run on the beach leash free. Walking through the trees along the trail and then down the dune to play in the sand and get their feet wet in the surf.
The walk along the trails is easy and wheelchair accessible, but the walk down the sand dune to the beach and then back up is not. The dune can be hard to hike back up and strenuous on knees and backs if weak.

Bring plenty of water for you and your Dane/s as there is not any water down on the beach. We will bring the big blue bucket, you bring the jugs of water to fill it. There is a water fountain along the trail for the dogs and portable bathrooms in the parking lot for us humans.
“Fort Funston is alive with canine activity, and is a place where off-leash pooches of all sizes and dog lovers can socialize. Hydrate your canine companions at the water spigots near the parking lot, or trailside in the middle of the park. Pick up a dog refuse bag at the pooper-scooper boxes, which are stocked by the community; check your pet’s coat for foxtails after a visit here.”
We will meet in the sandy area just off the north east corner of the parking lot at 11:00am and head down to the beach at 11:15am. Once on the beach we will take a slow stroll south along the shoreline away from the bottleneck sand dune area, then turn around and head back after a while.
Finding Fort Funston:
Fort Funston is directly off of HIGHWAY #35 (SKYLINE BLVD.) in between John Muir Drive and John Daly Blvd.
To access the entrance you must be traveling SOUTH on highway 1. After you either pass John Muir Drive going south, or make a U-turn at its signal if traveling north, the driveway entrance to the parking lot is a right turn about ˝ mile from John Muir Drive. Stay to the right and you are in the parking lot. Park in any space and meet us in the sand just off of the north-east corner of the parking lot. Believe me we won't be hard to find.
ACCESSIBILITY
The loop trails at Fort Funston are paved and wheelchair-accessible; the trails down to the beach are not.
Bring poop bags as we must pick up after our Danes!
Bring a jug of water for the bucket!
Bring a jacket just in case the wind pics up and the fog decides to stick around.
